The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers and uncovered a suspected hideout in Ikara Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna.
Hassan said the arrests followed credible information provided by a kidnap victim who escaped from captivity, as well as intelligence received from members of the public.
According to him, the victim reported the abduction to the police on Tuesday and identified a house belonging to 65-year-old Ja’e Samalu of Dogon Pako Village, Ikara, as the location where he had been held.
“Upon receiving the complaint, the Ikara Police Division promptly mobilised officers, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante service, to raid the location,” he said.
He said the operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects aged between 20 and 65.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects remained in custody while investigations continued to determine their individual roles in the alleged criminal activities.
“Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network,” he added.
Hassan quoted the state Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, as commending the police operatives and members of the public whose timely information contributed to the operation.
Rabiu urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals, movements and activities to the nearest police formation.
The commissioner also cautioned residents against allowing criminal elements to use residential buildings as hideouts or holding facilities for kidnapped victims.
He stressed that community vigilance and prompt sharing of information remained essential to preventing and dismantling criminal networks across the state.
