The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Aisha Musa, for allegedly poisoning her husband barely six weeks after their marriage in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area.
According to the police, the incident occurred on August 12, 2026, when the suspect allegedly added a poisonous substance to a meal prepared for her husband, leaving him critically ill.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the police received a distress call around 7:40 p.m. from a female resident of the Wunti Dada area.
He said officers attached to the C Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, were immediately mobilised to the village, where they found the victim in distress.
The victim was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for emergency treatment and is currently in stable condition, according to the police.
Habib said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and allegedly admitted during interrogation to administering the substance after she was cautioned.
Investigators, he added, recovered an empty bottle believed to have contained the poison, alongside leftover portions of the suspected contaminated food. The items have been retained as exhibits.
The state Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation.
Habib said the suspect would be arraigned after the conclusion of investigations.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, assuring them of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
