Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate in the Osun State governorship election, has won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, secured victories in the remaining 11.
The result places Adeleke ahead as the Independent National Electoral Commission moves towards the formal declaration of the election result following Sunday’s collation.
The governor recorded victories in several key areas, including Ede South, Ife North, Ilesa West, Ife Central, Osogbo, Ife East, Ifelodun, Iwo, Ede North, Ila, Egbedore, Ayedaade and Ejigbo.
Oyebamiji, meanwhile, picked up victories in areas including Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
Some of the contests were particularly close.
At Boluwaduro, Adeleke edged Oyebamiji by 7,118 votes to 7,050, while the ADC candidate received 179 votes.
The governor had a stronger showing in Ede South, where he secured 26,188 votes against the APC candidate’s 6,219.
In Ife North, Adeleke polled 13,879 votes, while Oyebamiji recorded 9,613.
Oyebamiji’s strongest victories included Irewole, where he secured 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934, and Olorunda, where the APC candidate won with 24,671 votes compared with Adeleke’s 23,514.
Adeleke also secured a significant win in Osogbo, polling 36,480 votes against Oyebamiji’s 30,474.
In Ede North, the governor recorded 35,427 votes, comfortably ahead of the APC’s 10,283.
The two candidates also battled closely in Ayedaade, with Adeleke winning by 16,681 votes to 15,719.
At Isokan, however, Oyebamiji narrowly defeated Adeleke, polling 14,063 votes against 13,765.
The results from all 30 LGAs are expected to form the basis of INEC’s final declaration of the winner of the Osun governorship election.
