The All Progressives Congress chairman in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has died after he reportedly collapsed during a party reconciliation meeting.

The incident happened on Friday at the Iyara Town Hall, where party leaders and stakeholders had gathered to resolve disagreements within the local government.

Arise Television reported that Solomon received first aid at the venue before he was taken to a hospital for further treatment.

He was reportedly confirmed dead shortly after reaching the medical facility.

The meeting was organised by Funsho Olumoko, a former chairman of Ijumu LGA, as part of efforts to settle differences among various factions and party stakeholders.

The gathering came after an earlier meeting where Solomon and some party officials reportedly left following a disagreement.

Reacting to the development, the chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Zacchaeus Dare Michael, described Solomon’s death as a “painful loss”.

“At this difficult moment, on behalf of my family, the government and good people of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, the leadership and members of the APC in Ijumu, and the entire people of Ijumu LGA.”
