EPL: Gvardiol’s last-gasp winner seals dramatic Manchester City comeback against Bournemouth

Manchester City staged a dramatic late comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in Enzo Maresca’s first Premier League game in charge.

Josko Gvardiol struck the stoppage-time winner at the Etihad Stadium after Marc Guehi had levelled the contest with an 84th-minute header, cancelling out Marcus Tavernier’s first-half opener.

The result provided huge relief for Maresca in his first home fixture since taking over from Pep Guardiola.

Gvardiol’s late strike was initially ruled offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision and sparked wild celebrations on the touchline.

Until that moment, Maresca appeared set to suffer defeat at the hands of another new manager, Bournemouth’s Marco Rose.

However, Maresca can argue that City deserved the win after creating several clear opportunities, although Erling Haaland – now sporting a close-cropped haircut – and Guehi both missed excellent chances.
