The Ogun State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has spoken about the efforts made to help veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, better known as Ogogo, during his illness.
Adeola, in a condolence message released with his wife, Temitope, said Ogogo’s death was painful, particularly after the actor’s prolonged health battle and the hope that he would recover.
He said his family remained supportive of Ogogo and his relatives throughout the period, including helping with his medical care.
“During those difficult moments, we stood closely with him and his family, supporting his treatment and doing everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care.
“We remained hopeful and prayerful that he would overcome the illness and return to the family, friends and countless admirers who cherished him. Sadly, despite all efforts, it has pleased Almighty God to call him home. Indeed, God knows best,” the statement read.
Describing Ogogo as a close friend and a proud son of Ilaro and Ogun West, Adeola said the actor’s contribution to the entertainment industry would not be forgotten.
He noted that Ogogo’s work entertained generations and helped advance the Nigerian film industry.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than an accomplished veteran of the entertainment industry to us; he was a dear brother and a proud son of Ilaro and Ogun West, whose remarkable career brought joy to generations and contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry.
“His talent, humility and enduring body of work will ensure that his memory lives on,” Adeola said.
He extended his condolences to Ogogo’s wife, children, relatives, colleagues and the people of Ilaro and Yewaland.
Adeola also prayed that Allah would forgive the late actor’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
Ogogo’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had earlier acknowledged Adeola’s assistance during their father’s illness, with Kaira particularly appreciating his support towards the actor’s medical expenses.
The sisters had clarified that their appeal for assistance was aimed at securing medical treatment rather than seeking financial donations.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer. His death was announced by veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
His remains were taken to Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his burial on Monday according to Islamic rites.
The late actor spent more than four decades in the Yoruba film industry and featured in hundreds of productions, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Nigerian cinema.
