Former England striker Callum Wilson scored his first goal for Brentford and Nathan Collins netted two headers as the Bees thrashed Birmingham City in round two of the Carabao Cup according to BBC Sport.
Wilson, 34, joined Brentford in the summer on a free transfer after his West Ham contract ended and needed only six minutes to make an impact in his first competitive start for the Bees.
Yehor Yarmoliuk won possession 30 yards out and Wilson hit a first-time strike on the turn from the edge of the penalty area, with the ball taking a deflection off Dael Fry before going into the net.
Brentford, who began their league campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory over Tottenham on Saturday, conceded an equaliser to their Championship hosts after 28 minutes.
Instead of putting a free-kick into the penalty area, Paik Seung-ho played the ball back to Demarai Gray and he fired through a crowded 18-yard box to make it 1-1.
But Brentford retook the lead six minutes later. The home side failed to clear a cross and Aaron Hickey struck a half-volley into the bottom corner.
Brentford stretched their advantage in the 40th minute thanks to Collins’ header from Jaidon Anthony’s floated delivery from the right. Mikkel Damsgaard was left unmarked in the 70th minute and shot past Ryan Allsop for the Bees’ fourth.
Substitute Igor Thiago made it 5-1 after more poor defending and Collins wrapped up the scoring with a header from Mamadou Sangare’s delivery for Brentford’s sixth – their ninth goal in two games.
The third round draw will take place on Wednesday night, following the conclusion of the Preston versus Everton tie.
