The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the resumption of its electronic membership registration exercise nationwide from August 31, 2026, as the ruling party steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to the party, the exercise will be conducted across all wards in the country and will involve both existing and prospective members. While current members are expected to verify and update their details, new members will have the opportunity to formally join the party.
In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the initiative was designed to establish an accurate and digitally managed membership database ahead of the 2027 elections.
Morka called on party leaders, supporters and members to participate actively in the exercise, noting that a credible membership register would enhance the party’s organisational capacity and improve its planning and administration.
“The e-registration exercise is designed to digitise the party’s membership register, ensure the integrity of membership records, enhance efficient access to membership data for planning and management decisions, promote internal democracy, and strengthen the party’s commitment to democratic innovation in Nigeria,” Morka said.
The ruling party said participation would be open to Nigerians aged 18 and above who possess a valid National Identification Number, making the identification requirement a key component of the registration process.
The re-opening comes at a politically significant period as parties begin preparations for the 2027 general election.
For the APC, which controls the Federal Government and several state governments, an accurate membership database could play an important role in internal party administration, mobilisation and the conduct of future party activities.
The exercise is also expected to provide the party with an updated picture of its membership strength across the country’s wards, while helping to eliminate inaccuracies and duplication associated with manually maintained membership records.
Existing members will, therefore, be required to validate their details rather than simply assume that their previous registration remains sufficient, while intending members can use the exercise as an entry point into the party.
The APC’s decision to emphasise electronic registration also reflects the growing role of digital systems in political party administration, particularly in the management of large membership structures ahead of elections.
The party called on its stakeholders and supporters to take advantage and participate in strengthening the APC’s membership structure nationwide.
