Atlético Madrid have firmly ruled out the possibility of Julián Álvarez joining Barcelona, making it clear that they have no intention of negotiating the Argentine striker’s transfer to the Catalan club.
The position received unanimous backing from Atlético’s Board of Directors, who fully supported the club’s stance regarding Barcelona’s reported interest in the forward.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, Atlético said they remain willing to engage in transfer discussions but insisted that any negotiations must be handled ethically and professionally, with mutual respect between clubs.
According to the Madrid side, Barcelona did not meet those standards.
“FC Barcelona have not met these requirements and, as a result, there have been no negotiations, nor will there be any negotiations with them regarding the transfer of Julián Álvarez,” Atlético said.
The club also confirmed that its board members had been briefed on the matter and unanimously endorsed the position Atlético had previously made public.
Atlético expressed confidence that Álvarez would understand the club’s decision and remain committed to helping the team achieve its ambitions.
The Argentina international arrived at Atlético from Manchester City and has established himself as a key figure since making the move to Spain.
Atlético also praised Álvarez’s contribution during his two seasons at the club and made clear that they expect him to continue playing an important role in their pursuit of success.
Barcelona’s reported interest in the forward had fuelled speculation about a potential transfer, but Atlético’s latest statement appears to have ended any prospect of talks between the two clubs.
For now, Álvarez remains an Atlético Madrid player, with the Spanish club making its position unmistakable: Barcelona will not be allowed to negotiate for the Argentine star.
