The Canadian voice actor best known for portraying Optimus Prime in the ‘Transformers’ franchise, Peter Cullen, has died at the age of 85.
His death was announced through an official statement shared on his Instagram page.
“It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I acknowledge the passing of the legendary Peter Cullen,” the statement reads.
Cullen voiced Optimus Prime for more than 40 years, becoming one of the most recognisable voices in animation and entertainment. Throughout his career, he also lent his voice to several other characters and earned a special place among generations of fans.
The statement described Cullen as a person whose character extended beyond his work, highlighting his kindness, humility, compassion and wisdom.
“More importantly, Peter himself was someone people could look up to. His kindness, humility, compassion, and wisdom resonated far beyond the characters he portrayed,” the statement reads.
“His work touched millions of people across generations, and his influence will continue through every person who grew up hearing his voice, watching his performances, and carrying the memories he helped create.
“Few people are fortunate enough to leave behind something that becomes part of so many childhoods, friendships, families, and lives.
“Your voice may have fallen silent, but your legacy never will.”
