The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed three officers linked to the killing of a University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo, along Ada George in Port Harcourt.
The command also declared an Inspector of Police who allegedly fled after the shooting a deserter.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this while parading the three dismissed officers before journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Adepoju said the disciplinary action followed the conclusion of an investigation into the incident and the establishment of the officers’ culpability.
He said the dismissed personnel would also be prosecuted.
“The Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved, and the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.
The police chief did not provide further details on the circumstances surrounding Obodo’s killing or the identity of the Inspector declared a deserter.
The development comes amid concerns over alleged police misconduct and the use of firearms by security personnel in the course of their duties.
The command said the disciplinary measures were taken after investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determining the involvement of the affected officers.
