Nigerian Army troops operating under COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have dislodged terrorists from an enclave in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation led to the recovery of a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, ammunition, motorcycles and other logistical materials.
The military offensive was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist hideouts, restrict the movement of armed groups and improve security across communities in the North-West.
Military sources said the troops moved into identified areas of terrorist activity, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya forest axis, following intelligence on the presence of armed terrorists.
According to the sources, the troops encountered the terrorists inside the Magarya forest enclave and engaged them, forcing the group to abandon the area and retreat deeper into the forest.
The troops subsequently conducted a follow-up search of the surrounding area, during which they recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition and other items believed to belong to the terrorists.
The recovered items included a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and assorted logistical materials.
The military source said the recovery was expected to further reduce the terrorists’ operational capability in the area.
The motorcycles were also believed to have been used by the group to navigate difficult forest terrain and access remote settlements.
Troops have continued with patrols and follow-up operations in the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or returning to the cleared locations.
The operation comes amid intensified military efforts across the North-West to disrupt armed groups and prevent attacks and abductions in communities.
The military authorities also warned terrorists and their collaborators still operating in the area to abandon their activities, stressing that troops would continue to pursue them and dismantle their operational networks.
The troops further assured residents of their commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring confidence in affected communities.
