Nigeria’s U-20 women’s head coach, Moses Aduku, has expressed disappointment following the Falconets’ 2-0 defeat to Spain in their opening Group F match at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The reigning European champions secured victory with a goal in each half, with Marisa Garcia and Alba Cerrato getting on the scoresheet for Spain.
Speaking to FIFA.com after the match, Aduku admitted that his team failed to deliver the expected performance against the Spanish side.
“We did not come to the party today; we did not play.
But all the same, we have two more games to play; we will get it right. Of course, we are going to go through [to the knockout rounds].
“I am confident. We did not play today.”
Despite the setback, Aduku remains confident that Nigeria will recover and progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
The defeat leaves the Falconets needing a positive response in their remaining Group F fixtures. They will face China PR on Thursday, September 10, as they look to revive their campaign in Poland.
