Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, have arrested four suspected illicit drug dealers during an operation in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were apprehended during a covert operation carried out by personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Unit based in Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government Area.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the NSCDC, the operation followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to the alleged sale and distribution of illicit drugs.
Those arrested were identified as Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33, all residents of Gaida in Kumbotso LGA.
Items reportedly recovered from the suspects included four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, commonly known as “PG”; several Diazepam tablets, locally called “Fara”; three tubes of Oshin Solution, also referred to as “Sholisho”; as well as three large packs and 20 parcels of suspected marijuana.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, warned members of the public, particularly young people, against the unlawful sale, distribution and abuse of illicit substances.
Agalama described drug abuse as a major danger to public safety, security and societal wellbeing, especially among youths.
He said the suspects and the recovered items would be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, after the NSCDC concludes its preliminary investigation.
According to him, the handover would allow the NDLEA to carry out further investigations and take appropriate legal action.
The commandant reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders in tackling drug-related crimes and other activities capable of threatening peace and security in the state.
He also appealed to members of the public to provide security agencies with reliable information on suspected illicit drug activities, assuring them that all information received would be handled with strict confidentiality.
