The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Augustine Eguavoen as the interim head coach of the Super Falcons.
Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles head coach, will take charge of the team for its 2028 Olympic Games two-legged qualifying tie against Comoros in October.
He will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, head coach of Nasarawa Amazons. The technical team will also include former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf and former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa.
Nigeria will begin its Olympic qualifying campaign in the second round against Comoros, with both legs scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13.
The Super Falcons received a bye into the second round because of their position among Africa’s top-ranked teams, while Comoros secured its place after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.
The Falcons must progress through four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to secure one of Africa’s two qualification slots for the women’s football tournament at the Olympics.
A victory over Comoros would see Nigeria advance to the third round in early 2027, where they would face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco.
The appointment marks Eguavoen’s first time managing a women’s national football team.
His selection comes weeks after Justine Madugu was dismissed as Super Falcons head coach along with his technical crew.
The decision followed the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking the first time the Super Falcons will miss the tournament since its inception in 1991.
