Nigerian actor and filmmaker Adekanla Desalu says he lost $2,500 after clicking on a fraudulent link disguised as a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) payment link.
In a video posted on Instagram, Desalu said he believed he was paying a N2,500 road safety-related fee but instead lost $2,500 after accessing the fake link.
“From ₦2,500 to $2,500 God abeg,” he captioned the post.
The actor subsequently urged Nigerians to exercise caution when opening links received through text messages or emails.
“PSA please DO NOT click on any links you get via SMS or Email without double/triple checking it is LEGIT. You can’t be too careful.”
The FRSC had earlier warned the public about a fraudulent message informing motorists of alleged traffic violations and directing them to a website to pay fines.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the corps disowned the message and advised members of the public not to click on the attached link.
The warning followed concerns raised by a social media user who shared details of a text message notifying him of an alleged road traffic violation.
According to the FRSC, the messages and the website identified as “frscgov.top/ng” were fraudulent and intended to impersonate the corps.
The agency said its official website is “frsc.gov.ng” and advised motorists to rely only on its authorised digital platforms and communication channels.
Desalu was born in Lagos on November 7, 1980. He studied actuarial science at the University of Lagos and later obtained an MBA in artificial intelligence from Nexford University.
