Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has relieved the state Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, of his appointment with immediate effect.

The development was announced in a statement released on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon . Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI GGCEHF has directed the immediate removal from office the Honourable Commissioner for Works Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam,” the statement read.

The governor also directed Mbam to hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.

He was further directed to transfer his responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of works.

The statement did not give a reason for the commissioner’s removal.

It said the governor assured residents that his administration remained focused on delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure.

This is not the first time Mbam has faced disciplinary action from the governor.

Nwifuru had in March 2026 indefinitely suspended the Works Commissioner over alleged dereliction of duty, alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession for Development, Ogbonnaya Abara.

The latest statement did not state the reason for Mbam’s removal.
