Gunmen have shot dead a father of four, identified as Kamadioye Krama, in Emulation community, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear, but the incident reportedly occurred at about 8pm on Friday.
The deceased’s elder brother, Monday Krama, said Kamadioye had gone to the venue of a planned coronation ceremony when the gunmen stormed the area and shot him.
Speaking to newsmen by telephone on Saturday, Monday expressed sadness over the killing and called for justice.
He stated, “I was in Port Harcourt when we heard about the killing of my brother. I am in the village now.
“From what I heard, he went to the farm. When he returned in the evening, he went to have his haircut. After barbing his hair, he went to the town where youths in the community were arranging canopies ahead of the coronation of a stakeholder in the community, Mr ThankGod.
“Suddenly, the gunmen came out from nowhere and started shooting. They shot him dead. That is what happened.”
Monday dismissed earlier reports that the gathering where the shooting occurred was political.
“It was not a political gathering. My brother was just there, standing and watching as the youths were arranging canopies for the coronation of Mr ThankGod on Saturday.
“All we are asking is justice. Let the police investigate the incident and ensure those behind my brother’s death are prosecuted.”
He added that the deceased was married and left four children behind.
As of press time, the Divisional Police Officer of the Abua/Odual Police Division and his personnel had visited the family.
The family also disclosed that it had lodged an official complaint at the Abua/Odual Police Division.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway to apprehend those responsible.
Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, stated, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. Investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim and determine what led to the unfortunate incident.
“The command remains committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring that appropriate action is taken based on the outcome of the investigation.”
