Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said President Bola Tinubu does not deserve a second term if he fails to deliver on his earlier promise to fix Nigeria’s electricity crisis.
Makinde made the statement on Monday while referring to a comment attributed to Tinubu during the 2023 presidential campaign.
According to the Oyo governor, Tinubu had told Nigerians that they should not vote for him for a second term if he failed to address the country’s electricity challenges.
“President Tinubu deserves no second term because he once said that if electricity is not fixed, Nigerians should not vote for him,” Makinde said.
The APM presidential candidate argued that Tinubu should be held accountable for the promise, insisting that Nigerians should assess the administration’s performance in the power sector before deciding whether to support a second term.
Makinde’s comment comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinising the Tinubu administration’s record on electricity, the economy and other key national issues.
The power sector remains a major concern for Nigerians, with electricity supply continuing to fluctuate despite various reforms and investments by the Federal Government.
