The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a man suspected of providing information to bandits terrorising communities in Tambuwal Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Ashiru Abubakar from Gumfa Gebe village in Wamakko LGA, was allegedly assisting criminal elements operating around the area.
According to investigations, Abubakar was allegedly linked to a threat against residents of Romo community, where bandits reportedly demanded N10m and threatened to attack if the money was not paid.
His arrest comes as security concerns continue to rise in Tambuwal and neighbouring communities following reported cases of attacks and abductions.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, saying the suspect had already been charged to court.
Rufai said the police apprehended Abubakar after investigations uncovered his alleged activities and connections with criminal groups.
He assured that the command would sustain efforts to identify and prosecute people suspected of supporting criminal activities across Sokoto.
Residents in the affected communities have meanwhile called for more security personnel and improved intelligence gathering to curb attacks and enable displaced residents to return home.
