The Nigerian naira remained relatively stable across both the official and informal foreign exchange markets on Friday, September 25, 2026, as balanced supply and demand continued to support market stability.

At the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), intra-day trading opened at around N1,326.00 per US dollar. The rate moved slightly between N1,325.82 and N1,327.00 before settling around N1,326.06.

The movement follows the previous session’s official closing rate of N1,328.00/$1, indicating relatively steady foreign exchange liquidity, supported by the country’s foreign reserves.

In the parallel, or black, market, traders in major commercial centres such as Lagos and Abuja quoted the dollar at about N1,370/$1 for buying and between N1,374/$1 and N1,380/$1 for selling.

The difference between the official NFEM rate and the parallel market rate currently stands at approximately N46 to N54 per dollar, indicating a relatively narrow gap between the two markets.

At the prevailing parallel-market rates, $100 would cost approximately N137,400, while $1,000 would exchange for about N1,374,000. At the official rate, $1,000 would be equivalent to roughly N1,326,060.

Financial analysts have linked the naira’s current stability to recent policy measures by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), alongside continued improvement in the country’s external reserves.

Market operators expect trading to end the week on a relatively stable note, provided foreign exchange supply remains sufficient to meet immediate import demand.
