The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has declared its support for the Rainbow Coalition, a political platform associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party’s governorship candidate in the state, Dr David Ombugadu, made this known on Saturday in Lafia during the official launch of his campaign. The event was attended by PDP stakeholders and supporters drawn from the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
The campaign flag-off took place at the party’s secretariat in Lafia.
Ombugadu said members of the Nasarawa PDP had embraced the Rainbow Coalition and would follow Wike’s political direction.
He said, “We want to affirm today that the entire Nasarawa State stands for the Rainbow Coalition. We are all united in support of our national leader, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. We are waiting for our national leader to give us direction. Wherever he goes, we will go.”
The PDP candidate also appealed to stakeholders from Abuja who attended the event to convey the people’s goodwill to Wike, whom he described as a “capacity national leader.”
“Please take our warm regards to him. The people of Nasarawa State are eagerly waiting for him to pay a visit to Nasarawa State. We love him, we believe in his vision, we believe in his charisma, we believe in his capacity,” Ombugadu said.
He outlined security, innovation and inclusive governance as key priorities of his administration if elected.
According to Ombugadu, Nasarawa has abundant solid mineral resources, including gold, lithium and wolframite, but residents have not sufficiently benefited from the state’s natural wealth.
“We have gold in the ground. No one should tell us poverty is affecting us. Our gold was only given to a few people. But through my leadership, we will make sure that your children will not go to the hospital and suffer,” he said.
He also pledged to improve healthcare services for pregnant women, strengthen security for farmers and operate a government that gives every citizen a sense of inclusion.
“We will sit down; what we will do is what you want. Not what a single person wants. We will all sit down and look at what you need in your locality. What are your needs? What is your contribution?” he added.
Ombugadu thanked residents for their support and urged them to safeguard their votes to ensure the emergence of a government that would represent their interests.
Also speaking at the campaign, the PDP National Deputy Chairman, Yusuf Agirikwe, claimed that the party had the backing of the people to take control of Nasarawa State in 2027.
“We have been hearing from afar that Nasarawa State is PDP. I have come to establish it myself today that PDP has the mandate of the people to rule them in this state,” he said.
Agirikwe said achieving victory would require supporters to vote and protect their votes, while also encouraging them to mobilise more people for the party.
“From today, go and tell your friends that PDP is the winning party. Go out and bring your votes,” he added.
