The Kano State Government has announced the indefinite suspension of all Durbar processions and horse-riding activities across the Kano metropolis.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the State Security Council at the Government House in Kano, where officials assessed the security situation surrounding the planned events.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the government said the suspension was a precautionary measure aimed at preventing potential clashes, safeguarding lives and property, and preserving public order.
According to the statement, security assessments revealed a significant mobilisation of supporters linked to the planned activities, prompting concerns over possible confrontations and a potential breakdown of law and order.
The statement said the State Security Council therefore directed that the planned Durbar processions and horse-riding activities be suspended in the metropolis.
“The State Security Council resolved to take precautionary measures to prevent any possible confrontation, preserve public order, and avoid any potential loss of lives or damage to property,” the statement said.
It added that all relevant security agencies had been directed to enforce the restriction and take appropriate lawful action against anyone found violating the directive or engaging in conduct capable of threatening public peace and security.
“The Kano State Government urges all residents, traditional institutions, political actors, supporters, and other stakeholders to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding and to comply fully with the directive,” it said.
The government assured residents that necessary measures were being taken to protect lives and property and maintain peace across the state.
