The Nigerian Bar Association in Plateau State has raised the alarm over continued attacks on communities despite government-imposed curfews in parts of the state.
The association, through its Jos, Pankshin, Bukuru and Shendam branches, made the allegation on Monday during a joint press conference at the NUJ Secretariat in Jos.
The NBA said recent killings in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bokkos Local Government Areas showed that residents continued to face serious security threats.
It alleged that terrorists had attacked communities even while residents were observing the curfew, with some community vigilantes reportedly killed at their duty posts during the restricted hours.
The association also expressed concern over the displacement of residents from some communities, alleging that their lands had been occupied and renamed after the attacks.
The NBA urged the Federal Government to strengthen security operations, improve border surveillance and provide security agencies with adequate equipment.
It also called for quicker responses to attacks, better intelligence gathering and stronger measures to ensure that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.
The association further commended some security initiatives by the Plateau State Government but urged authorities to do more to protect residents and restore confidence in the state’s security system.
