Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled two abduction attempts and rescued 10 people during separate operations in Zamfara State.
The operations were conducted on Sunday in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
In Maru, troops of Sector 2 received intelligence that terrorists had abducted villagers in Kade Daba, Kanoma District.
The troops immediately mobilised to the area and engaged the suspected kidnappers, rescuing three victims.
A subsequent search of the area led to the rescue of another victim, bringing the total number rescued in the operation to four.
In a separate incident along the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops conducting a picketing operation heard sporadic gunshots around Kwanoni and moved towards the area.
According to the military, the troops encountered terrorists retreating through the surrounding high ground and engaged them, forcing them to flee.
The terrorists had reportedly set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants. However, the occupants escaped before the vehicle was completely engulfed by fire.
The troops also rescued six people from another vehicle that reportedly lost control amid the gunfire.
The vehicle was subsequently towed off the road to restore the free flow of traffic.
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their vigilance, swift response and professionalism in protecting residents and motorists across the joint task force’s area of responsibility.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustained offensive operations against terrorists in the North-West.
The commander also urged residents to provide timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities to security agencies through appropriate channels.
