The Oyo State Government is set to receive the findings of the judicial commission investigating the abduction of pupils and teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The report is scheduled to be presented to Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.
According to the state Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the presentation is expected to begin by noon and will be attended by government officials, security chiefs, religious leaders, labour representatives and other stakeholders.
“The commission’s report will be formally received by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
“The event is scheduled to commence at 12 noon, with top government officials, security chiefs, religious leaders, labour representatives and other stakeholders expected to attend,” Oyelade said.
Officials of the schools affected by the incident, as well as representatives of the communities, are also expected to be present.
The commission was inaugurated by Makinde on July 31 to establish what led to the abduction and examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The attack occurred on May 15 when bandits invaded Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in the local government area.
A total of 39 pupils and seven teachers were taken captive. They reportedly spent 56 days with their abductors inside the Old Oyo National Park before regaining their freedom on July 10.
The incident also resulted in the deaths of two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Adesiyan Adegboye.
The submission of the report will mark a major stage in the state government’s inquiry into the attack and the circumstances surrounding the prolonged captivity of the victims.
