A 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, has allegedly beaten her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, 43, to death with a pestle at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis.
The Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the arrest of the suspect in a statement issued in Bauchi on Monday.
Habib said the C-Division Police Station in Bauchi received credible information at about 4:05pm on September 27, 2026, regarding a domestic incident involving two co-wives living in the same household.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that Haruna allegedly experienced hallucinations before picking up a pestle and striking Adamu on the forehead, causing her to lose consciousness.
He said detectives attached to the C-Division immediately mobilised to the scene, where the incident was documented, while the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.
According to him, Jamila was certified dead by a medical doctor, while her corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the incident was recovered as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The CP condoled with the bereaved family and cautioned the public against domestic violence, while advising families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members experiencing mental health challenges.
