Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed his departure from the Portugal national team camp, saying he will eventually disclose the reasons behind his decision.

The Al Nassr forward announced his exit after a press conference involving the national team and a discussion with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation.

“After the press conference of the national team, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team camp,” Ronaldo said.

The 41-year-old did not provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding his departure but said he would explain what led to his decision at a later date.

“In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave the national team, to which I always devoted myself,” he added.

Ronaldo, Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer and most-capped player, ended his statement by wishing the national team and his international teammates well.

“Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates good luck, without exception,” he said.

His departure comes amid increased attention surrounding the Portugal camp, with the forward leaving before the conclusion of the team’s ongoing international assignment.
