President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and move troops closer to vulnerable communities.

Tinubu made this known in a statement shared on his official X account on Sunday, saying the new formations would enhance the military’s capacity to respond quickly to security threats in the affected areas.

The President also disclosed that the government was accelerating the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states, while the facility in Osun State has already been completed.

According to Tinubu, the initiatives are aimed at improving the infrastructure and support available to members of the Armed Forces as they carry out their duties across the country.

“Over the past few days, servicemen and women of the Armed Forces have shared what the recent pay increase means for them and their families. I am glad it is making a difference,” Tinubu said.

He described the activation of the new formations as a significant step towards strengthening the military’s presence in communities affected by security challenges.

“Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” he said.

Tinubu also explained that the ongoing construction of military facilities was necessary to improve the working and living conditions of personnel.

“As we demand more from our men and women in uniform, we must do more to support them and their families,” he said.

The President acknowledged the sacrifices made by the families of military personnel, particularly when their loved ones are deployed on operations.

“Every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too,” he said.

Tinubu, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, assured that his administration would continue providing security personnel with the resources and support needed to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

“As our Armed Forces stand watch over Nigeria, my duty as Commander-in-Chief is to ensure they have the resources and support to do their job, and that Nigeria stands firmly behind the families waiting for them at home,” he said.
