Joshua Zirkzee scored the decisive goal in the 72nd minute as the Netherlands defeated Serbia 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten run in the Nations League.

The Netherlands took the lead in the 31st minute when Teun Koopmeiners curled a free-kick into the bottom-right corner at the Philips Stadion.

Serbia responded just four minutes later, with Mihajlo Cvetkovic heading in Aleksa Terzic’s cross to restore parity.

Both sides created opportunities after the break, but the Netherlands eventually found the winning goal through Zirkzee. The Manchester United striker reacted quickly inside the box to sweep home from close range after Tijjani Reijnders played a role in the move.

Serbia pushed for an equaliser late in the game, with Nemanja Gudelj coming close in stoppage time with a long-range effort, but the hosts held on for all three points.

The victory keeps Xavi’s side at the top of Group A2 and extends their unbeaten Nations League run to eight matches.

Virgil van Dijk also marked his 100th appearance for the Netherlands with a strong defensive display, making nine clearances and contributing four shots.

The Netherlands dominated the attacking numbers with 22 shots, seven of them on target, while Serbia recorded 14 attempts.
