NRS raises alarm over fake FIRS recruitment advert

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has disowned a recruitment notice currently circulating online under the name of the now-defunct Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

In a public statement titled “Fraudulent Recruitment Notice” shared on its official X account on Monday, the NRS said it had become aware of a notice bearing the headline “Federal Inland Revenue Service – FIRS Job Vacancy – Replacement,” which is being circulated across social media and other platforms.

The Service explained that the notice falsely claims to offer employment opportunities within the agency and asks prospective applicants to submit their details through the email address [email protected].

“The NRS wishes to state categorically that the notice is fraudulent and did not emanate from the Nigeria Revenue Service,” the agency said.

It reminded the public that the FIRS had been succeeded by the NRS.

“Accordingly, any purported recruitment notice issued in the name of FIRS should be treated with caution and independently verified,” the Service stated.

The NRS added that it had not authorised any recruitment exercise.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NRS has not authorised or commenced the recruitment exercise referenced in the notice and has not appointed or authorised any individual, agent, consultant or third party to conduct any recruitment exercise on its behalf,” the notice read.

The agency advised members of the public to disregard the notice and be careful when responding to recruitment-related messages and links.

“Any legitimate recruitment exercise undertaken by the Nigeria Revenue Service will be formally communicated through the Service’s official website and authorised communication channels.”

It urged Nigerians to verify any recruitment-related information through these channels before taking any action.
