At least two vigilantes were killed and three others injured after suspected gunmen attacked their duty post in Mangor, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred around 11pm at Angwan Tsarki, a settlement in Mangor, according to residents.

The victims were said to have been on patrol duty when the assailants opened fire on them. A community member, Bitrus Simon, told journalists that two vigilantes were killed while three others sustained injuries.

Simon condemned the incident as unfortunate and called for stronger security measures to protect residents in the community.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command confirmed a separate shooting incident along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the command said the incident happened at about 4:30pm on October 4, 2026, when gunmen reportedly attacked a vehicle carrying traders returning from Kara Market, Bukuru.

The police said seven injured victims had so far been located at the Military Clinic, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they were receiving treatment.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the Department of Investigations to lead the probe and ensure that those responsible were arrested and prosecuted.

“The Command strongly condemns this dastardly act and wishes the injured victims quick recovery,” the statement said.

The command also said tactical and anti-robbery teams had been deployed to strengthen security in the affected area, while intelligence operations had been intensified to identify and apprehend the attackers.

Residents were urged to continue with their lawful activities but remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.

As of press time, efforts to obtain confirmation of the Mangor attack from security operatives had not yielded results.
