The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a tricycle allegedly stolen from a commercial tricycle operator in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests and recovery in a statement issued on Tuesday.
“The Kano State Police command has recorded another breakthrough in its sustained fight against armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state,” the statement partly read.
The suspects were arrested following sustained follow-up and intelligence-led operations on Saturday, October 3, 2026, along the Kano-Maiduguri Road.
“On 30th September 2026, a report was received from one Nasiru Ibrahim that some unknown persons chartered his tricycle from Hotoro Quarters, Kano to Yar Gaya, Dawakin Kudu LGA along Kano-Maiduguri Highway, with an agreement to pay him the sum of N8,000:00″, the statement added.
It added that while en route along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, the suspects brought out locally made guns, threatened him at gunpoint and robbed him of his tricycle. They further lured him into a nearby bush and kept him there to avoid raising the alarm before escaping with the tricycle to an unknown destination.
“Upon receipt of the report and under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, sustained follow-up coupled with intelligence-led operations were emplaced. Consequently, Police Officers attached to Filin Hockey Division, Kano, on 3rd October, 2026 at about 1330hrs, traced and recovered the robbed tricycle at Wudil LGA along Kano-Maiduguri Highway.
“Two suspects were arrested in connection with the crime, and exhibits, including one robbed tricycle and two locally made guns, were recovered in their possession.”
The statement said the suspects, Abubakar Isah, 27, and Shehu Ibrahim, 25, both of Zogarawa Village, Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano State, had since confessed to the crime during investigation.
The CP commended the officers for their commitment and professionalism and appreciated the people of Kano State for their prayers, continuous support and cooperation.
The command called on members of the public, especially those who might have fallen victim to similar tricycle robberies along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, particularly the Hotoro-Dawakin Kudu-Wudil axis, to come forward to the Filin Hockey Police Division for identification or contact the investigating police officer.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement concluded.
