Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr is set to make history as the first African artiste to headline the halftime show at the 2026 National Football League (NFL) game featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The match, one of the NFL’s international fixtures, is scheduled to take place in London on October 11.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat ahead of the performance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Grammy-nominated singer described her record-breaking appearance as a message in itself.

The 24-year-old artiste also emphasised the importance of musicians taking full advantage of opportunities presented by major platforms.

“At the end of the day, as artists, we speak for the culture and we speak for the people that listen to us,” she added.

“And we have to represent any way that seems fit, that they need.”

She also confirmed the set will include songs from her latest album ‘Starrgirl‘ which dropped in August.

“Sunday is gonna be amazing,” she said.

“I’m still in rehearsals. It’s a lot of work we’re putting in so I’m really excited.”
