Jordan Henderson scored his first goal for Chelsea as the Blues secured a convincing 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. The result extended Chelsea’s unbeaten run in five consecutive competitive home matches to four wins and one draw, while Bournemouth continued their wait for a first Premier League victory under Marco Rose, having recorded three draws and three defeats.

Match Report

Bournemouth had scored first in four of their previous five league matches, but Chelsea quickly turned the tables, giving the visitors an uphill battle within the opening three minutes. Cole Palmer played a key role in the opener, driving forward over a long distance before setting up Henderson, who curled a first-time effort into the net off the post after just 64 seconds.

The home supporters had barely settled before celebrating again. Morgan Rogers collected the ball just inside the penalty area and curled a shot beyond former Chelsea goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic, with a slight touch off Antonio Silva’s head helping the effort find the net.

Despite their impressive start, Chelsea still had defensive concerns after conceding a league-high 12 goals and going 21 Premier League matches, dating back to last season, without keeping a clean sheet. Although they controlled much of the first half, Bournemouth came close to reducing the deficit when Rayan broke through the defence. However, Emiliano Martinez reacted quickly to deny him nine minutes before half-time.

That save proved crucial as Chelsea struck again shortly after the restart. Pedro Neto skillfully got past his compatriot Silva before delivering a pass across the box for Joao Pedro, who fired the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3-0.

Bournemouth eventually found a response when Evanilson stretched out a leg to block Caicedo’s attempted clearance from inside the six-yard box, inadvertently diverting the ball into the net. The goal marked Chelsea’s 14th concession from a set piece inside their six-yard box since the beginning of last season, while also ending Evanilson’s 16-match wait for a league goal.

The visitors briefly showed signs of a possible comeback, but Chelsea soon extinguished their hopes. Joao Pedro completed his brace after timing his run perfectly into the penalty area and applying a first-time finish to Pep Chavarria’s driven pass.

Henderson then completed his own brace, scoring directly from a free-kick to extend Chelsea’s advantage. The two late goals dealt a significant blow to Bournemouth, who were unable to mount any further challenge as the hosts comfortably saw out the match.

Following their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford before the international break, Chelsea returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, ending a run of three consecutive league matches without victory. The result also extended their unbeaten record against Bournemouth to 10 successive meetings, comprising five wins and five draws, as they moved up to fifth place temporarily.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, remain 17th in the table. Their attention now shifts to a historic first European home fixture against Sturm Graz, where they will hope to secure a positive result and build momentum.
