Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved N500 million for the state’s housing and motor vehicle loan schemes for public servants.
The governor also approved increases in loan limits and Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) for officers carrying out authorised official assignments within and outside the state, including international engagements.
The state Head of Service, Segun Odusanya, disclosed this on Monday while addressing journalists in Akure, the state capital, on activities planned for the annual Civil Service Week celebration.
Odusanya commended the governor for the approvals, describing them as measures aimed at boosting workers’ productivity. He added that the current administration had prioritised the welfare of both workers and pensioners.
He said, “The government has approved an additional seed fund of N500 million for the housing and motor vehicle loan schemes for public servants.
“It has also approved upward reviews of the loan ceilings and Duty Tour Allowance payable to officers undertaking approved official assignments within and outside the state, including assignments outside the country.
“These measures are intended to improve workers’ welfare and respond to prevailing economic realities.
“The government has continued to demonstrate its commitment to career progression through regular promotion exercises.
“All officers due for promotion in the 2026 cycle have received their promotion letters, while preparations for the 2027 promotion exercise are already underway. These exercises cover the mainstream civil service, primary and secondary teaching services, and relevant government parastatals.
“The government has continued to discharge its obligations regarding the payment of workers’ salaries and applicable allowances, including leave bonuses. This remains an important component of its commitment to workers’ welfare and financial stability.”
The Head of Service also disclosed that the government was making efforts to gradually clear outstanding gratuity arrears inherited from previous administrations, affecting state and local government pensioners.
He further stated that the government had harmonised the pensions of retired heads of service and permanent secretaries.
Odusanya called on public servants to reciprocate the government’s efforts by demonstrating greater dedication, discipline, integrity and accountability. He emphasised that improved welfare should lead to better service delivery.
Speaking on the 2026 Public Service Week celebration, themed “Harnessing public service for good governance,” Odusanya explained that the event was designed to strengthen professionalism, accountability, unity within institutions and the quality of public service delivery.
He said the six-day programme commenced with a press briefing on Monday and would feature a health walk, a novelty football match, a public service lecture and a panel discussion.
The celebration would also include Muslim and Christian thanksgiving services.
