Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has spoken about his change of attitude towards YouTube movies, joking that he might have faced financial difficulties if he had continued to dismiss productions made for the platform.
Egbuson shared his thoughts in a post on X on Tuesday night, writing, “Can’t believe I was looking down on YouTube movies at some point. Hunger go don kpai me by now.”
The actor’s comment reflects the growing commercial opportunities offered by YouTube movies in Nigeria’s film industry, as filmmakers and performers increasingly turn to the platform to reach viewers and earn revenue from their work.
Egbuson has since featured in YouTube movie productions, expanding his presence across Nollywood’s traditional film and digital streaming markets.
For years, many actors and filmmakers have placed greater emphasis on cinema releases, often regarding them as more prestigious and potentially more rewarding than movies distributed through YouTube. This perception has led some industry figures to overlook online productions despite their expanding audiences and revenue opportunities.
However, the growing reach of YouTube movies is gradually shifting attitudes within the entertainment industry.
Reports indicate that more Nigerian filmmakers have been exploring YouTube as global streaming companies scale back their investments in some local markets. The platform provides creators with a direct route to audiences and fewer distribution barriers than some traditional film and streaming channels.
