Suspected hoodlums have reportedly attacked African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives candidate, Nnamdi Ifebi, and some party members during a meeting in Obosi, Anambra State.

Ifebi is the party’s candidate for the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency.

Reports said the attackers, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the gathering and assaulted the candidate and his supporters.

The assailants also allegedly damaged Ifebi’s campaign vehicle and took personal belongings from some attendees, alongside empowerment items distributed during the event.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, adding that the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, had intervened. Iweka also serves as chairman of the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The attack has drawn condemnation from the state chapter of the ADC, which expressed concern over the safety of political actors as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

The party’s Publicity Secretary and Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Comrade Linus Anagboso, said the incident had no place in a democratic society.

He argued that candidates should be allowed to engage voters and promote their political programmes without threats, violence or destruction of property.

“Intimidation, violence or destruction of property should be avoided during this campaign period,” Anagboso said.

The ADC urged security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly, identify the perpetrators and ensure that those found responsible face legal consequences.

The party also appealed to politicians and their supporters to avoid actions that could escalate tensions, urging them to respect opposing views and allow citizens to participate in political activities without fear.

“Political differences must never become grounds for violence. Our democracy must be protected and the law must prevail,” Anagboso said.
