The African Alliance Party (AAP) has renewed its call for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register it in line with a court directive, expressing concern that further delays could affect its participation in the 2027 general election.
The party’s position was contained in a communiqué released in Abuja on Thursday after a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC).
AAP praised the Court of Appeal in Makurdi for its ruling on June 11, 2026, which directed INEC to register the party. It also commended the Supreme Court for striking out the commission’s application for a stay of execution.
“NEC commends the Court of Appeal, Makurdi Division, for its judgement of 11th June 2026, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the African Alliance Party as a political party, and the Supreme Court for striking out INEC’s frivolous stay of execution paving the way for the registration of AAP,” the communiqué stated.
The party said INEC needed to act promptly to ensure it could complete the necessary preparations before the next general election.
“NEC urged INEC to expedite action for the formal registration of AAP as ordered by the appellate court as time is of the essence,” it added.
AAP also appealed to its members nationwide to remain calm and focused as the party prepares to participate in the 2027 elections.
Beyond its registration demand, the party urged Nigerians to take an active role in the electoral process by voting for their preferred candidates and monitoring the collation of results to ensure their votes are properly accounted for.
It further cautioned voters against relying exclusively on INEC’s Results Viewing Portal (IReV), emphasising the importance of ensuring that votes cast are accurately reflected in the final results.
