The Oyo State Government has witnessed another round of resignations as three political appointees, including a member of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Sunday Olugbenga Falana; the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ayobami Oluwaseun Ojo; and Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning, Simeon Adegbola Oyeleke, have stepped down from their positions.

The three officials submitted their resignation letters on Monday, with their departures taking immediate effect, adding to the unfolding political developments in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Falana, an indigene of Ogbomoso, announced his decision in a resignation letter dated November 2 and addressed to Governor Makinde through the Chief of Staff.

In the letter, the former OYSIEC member appreciated the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve on the state’s electoral management body, describing his time there as a worthwhile experience.

However, he did not state any reason for his resignation.

His departure followed the resignation of Ojo, who also formally stepped down as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning through a letter addressed to the governor via the Secretary to the State Government.

Ojo, a native of Ago-Are in Atisbo Local Government Area, submitted his resignation on Monday, November 2, referring to his appointment letter dated June 22, 2026.

The former commissioner expressed appreciation to Makinde for trusting him with the responsibility and providing him with the opportunity to serve in his administration. He described his appointment and experience in government as a great honour but did not reveal the reasons behind his exit.

Similarly, Oyeleke, who occupied the position of Special Adviser to the governor on Budget and Economic Planning, also resigned on Monday.

Unlike Falana and Ojo, the former two-term member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and ex-local government chairman offered an explanation for his decision, pointing to dissatisfaction with the working conditions within the administration.

In his resignation letter, Oyeleke stated that he was no longer comfortable with the prevailing working environment, which he considered unconducive to effectively pursuing and fulfilling the aspirations of his people within the government.

Despite his decision to leave, he acknowledged Makinde’s leadership, encouragement and support, while appreciating the opportunity to contribute to the administration’s policies and development programmes.

The resignation of the three political appointees on the same day has attracted attention to recent developments within the Makinde-led government, particularly amid a series of changes involving government officials and political appointees.

While Oyeleke linked his departure to dissatisfaction with the working environment, Falana and Ojo did not provide specific explanations for their resignations.

The latest departures have added to the unfolding political developments in Oyo State as political parties and their various camps step up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
