A 17-year-old girl, Chiamaka Chukwuokore, has died following an incident in which she was allegedly thrown from a two-storey building in Owerri, Imo State.
The teenager reportedly succumbed to her injuries on Monday, November 3, after receiving treatment at a hospital.
The incident happened on Sunday, November 1, at Ikenegbu Layout, Owerri, during an alleged disagreement between Chiamaka and Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, 26.
Joseph, said to be in a relationship with the victim’s aunt, was arrested following the incident and is currently being held by the police.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the development on Wednesday through its spokesperson, Henry Okoye.
The police said the teenager suffered serious injuries and was taken to a medical facility, where she later died while receiving treatment.
The command disclosed that detectives were still investigating the incident to establish what happened and determine the appropriate legal action.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and assured them of a comprehensive investigation.
The police also appealed to members of the public not to spread unconfirmed reports about the incident, urging them to allow investigators to carry out their work.
