The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has arrived in Sokoto State ahead of the party’s presidential campaign flag-off scheduled to hold at its state secretariat on Ilorin Road.
Atiku touched down at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport at about 1pm on Wednesday, accompanied by members of his campaign team.
He was welcomed by his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former minister and Kebbi State governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami; Manir Dan’Iya of Sokoto; and other party chieftains.
Meanwhile, thousands of ADC supporters had converged on the party’s secretariat and surrounding roads leading to the venue to receive the former Vice-President and take part in the campaign event.
Speaking with journalists, one of the supporters, Abubakar Yusuf, said alleged intimidation by the state government would not discourage them from attending the event.
Yusuf alleged that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps had been mobilised to block roads leading into the town.
“They mobilised the Sokoto Marshal and Community Guard Corps to block roads leading to the town, but we overwhelmed them,” he said.
He maintained that the supporters remained determined to participate in the campaign flag-off despite the alleged attempts to frustrate their movement.
