Russia-Ukraine War: Why I see ‘no point’ talking to Putin on phone – Zelensky

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that he sees no point in inviting Vladimir Putin to Kyiv, as the Russian leader will not come. Likewise, according to him, there is no reason to consider an invitation for the Ukrainian president to Moscow.

“We do not invite Putin to Kyiv. They came to us in 2022 without an invitation. But there is no point in inviting Putin to Kyiv not because of that, but because he will not come. Just as there is no point in inviting me to Moscow,” Zelensky said.

according to SUD.UA, he called Russia’s actions destructive and said that trips to Moscow will not be supported by those who truly want to end the war.

“What Russia is doing is destructive. It is simply spitting in the face of the whole world that wants the war to end. Therefore, no one will support trips to Moscow,” the president noted.

The head of state also explained why he does not consider a phone conversation with the Russian president an effective way to bring peace closer.

In his opinion, the Kremlin may use such contact as an excuse to further avoid a personal meeting.

“Talking on the phone — Russia will use this as an opportunity to no longer meet. And we understand this game, it is hopeless,” Zelensky said.

He suggested that such a conversation would be formal and would not yield practical results.

“It will be a very official, dry phone conversation where I will listen once again to a historical lecture from the leader of the Russian Federation, rather than real steps on how to actually end the war,” the president explained.

According to Zelensky, to end the war, personal meetings must be held, and the negotiation process should begin with a ceasefire.

“If we want to end the war, we must meet and take the first step — a ceasefire,” he emphasized.
