Tuchel drops Palmer, Foden as Jobe Bellingham, Josh King earn first England call-ups

England manager Thomas Tuchel has left Chelsea forward Cole Palmer out of his latest squad, while Jobe Bellingham and Josh King have earned their first international call-ups ahead of the final Nations League fixtures.

Palmer has enjoyed an impressive start to the season with Chelsea, recording eight goal contributions across all competitions, including five goals and three assists.

Despite his form, the 24-year-old has once again been overlooked by Tuchel. Having missed out on the World Cup squad and withdrawn before the previous extended camp earlier in the season, the England manager explained that Palmer “misses too many opportunities to play for England”.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is another notable absentee, despite recently showing signs of improved form.

Meanwhile, Tuchel has introduced fresh faces into the squad, with Jobe Bellingham earning a call-up to join his elder brother, Jude, in the national team.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has featured in almost all of the club’s matches across competitions this season and has recorded impressive defensive statistics. He ranks second in tackles won (17), interceptions (19) and possession recoveries (67), with only Waldemar Anton ahead of him in those categories.

If Jobe makes his England debut, he and Jude would become the fourth pair of brothers to represent the Three Lions in the modern era.

Fulham youngster Josh King has also received his maiden senior England call-up following an encouraging start to the campaign, during which he has scored twice and provided one assist in the Premier League.

The academy graduate previously participated in England’s preparatory camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup before securing a place in Tuchel’s latest squad.

There are also returns for Arsenal defender Ben White, who has not featured for England since March, and midfielder Declan Rice, who missed the previous international camp due to injury.

However, England will be without several key players because of injuries. Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, Alex Scott and Trevoh Chalobah are unavailable, while Tottenham’s Djed Spence has returned to the squad for the first time since the World Cup after recovering his fitness.

England are scheduled to host Croatia at Wembley Stadium on November 12 before travelling to Madrid to take on Spain three days later.

Tuchel’s men currently occupy second position in Group A4, three points behind Spain. The two leading teams in the group will qualify for the Nations League quarter-finals scheduled for March.
