Police nab 24-year-old for alleged N48.5m romance fraud

The Airport Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old man over his alleged role in a large-scale fraud involving N48.5 million, as part of sustained efforts to curb criminal activities within the aviation sector.

The suspect, Precious Onudhona, an indigene of Delta State, was arrested on February 2, 2026, while attempting to board a flight to Asaba. The arrest was carried out following credible intelligence obtained by the Command’s Anti-Fraud Unit.

Initial investigations indicated that Onudhona allegedly became part of a fraud syndicate in 2023, which specialised in romance scams targeting unsuspecting individuals via social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

Speaking on the development, the Airport Police Public Relations Officer, Mohamed Adola, said the syndicate relied on fake identities and misleading stories to deceive victims.

He said, “The suspect posed as “Travis Kevin,” a white American medical doctor, and fraudulently created a fake banking domain displaying fictitious account balances.”

According to him, the suspect allegedly used the platform to obtain money from victims under the guise of short-term repayment, claiming the funds were required for feeding and medical supplies after sustaining injuries in the line of duty, which he said were received through cryptocurrency.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

She reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality within the airport environment, describing the aviation space as a critical corridor that must be protected from illegal activities.

She further directed intensified efforts to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate linked to the alleged fraud.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspect will be handed over to the Interpol Section for further investigation and prosecution.
