The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has published the names of 23 computer-based test (CBT) centres removed from the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) process due to “technical inaccuracies” recorded during the mock examination.
On March 27, several candidates scheduled to sit the mock UTME were left stranded after technical failures disrupted the exercise in different parts of the country. At many centres, the examination failed to begin hours after candidates had arrived, triggering widespread complaints and criticism, especially on social media.
JAMB had initially announced on March 31 that 20 centres were delisted after the release of the mock examination results. However, in a statement issued on Friday, Fabian Benjamin, the board’s spokesperson, said the number has now risen to 23 across 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Benjamin said the affected centres were removed for technical inefficiencies, while 88 other centres with minor issues have been warned. He added that one of the centres will no longer be used for any JAMB examinations.
He explained that the mock UTME is designed not only to help candidates become familiar with the CBT environment but also to test JAMB’s operational readiness.
“It provides an opportunity to identify centres that fall short of the required operational and technical standards,” he said.
According to him, JAMB’s internal review system flagged the affected centres after the mock exercise for failing to meet required standards.
“Consequently, the Board has taken decisive steps, in line with its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examination processes, to ensure that only centres that are fully prepared and compliant participate in the main UTME exercise,” he added.
