OHS ’04 Set Promotes Health Awareness, Supports Over 600 Students at Oluaso High School

Association donates first-aid boxes, weighing scales, sanitary pads and socks, organises health checks for school staff, and advocates girl-child education and alumni involvement in school development

The Oluaso High School 2004 Set (OHS ’04 Set) has reaffirmed its commitment to educational development and community welfare through a Health Awareness Programme organised for students, teachers and staff of Oluaso High School Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, in Imasayi on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

The programme featured health education, personal hygiene sensitisation, the distribution of socks and sanitary pads to more than 600 students, the donation of two first-aid boxes to the schools, and health checks for teachers and other members of staff.

The initiative also incorporated activities commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child, with emphasis on education, self-development, personal hygiene and the importance of preparing young girls for future responsibilities.

The event brought together members of OHS ’04 Set and the school management in a demonstration of the association’s continued commitment to giving back to its alma mater.

In his welcome address, the Acting President of OHS ’04 Set, Comrade Olusegun Kugbayi, emphasised the importance of health awareness and the association’s commitment to initiatives that improve students’ welfare and support the development of the school.

He encouraged the students to remain focused on their education, develop their talents and prepare themselves for future opportunities.

Kugbayi also urged them to remember their alma mater when they eventually achieve success in their respective careers, stressing the importance of giving back to the institution that laid the foundation for their academic and personal development.

He encouraged the students to see themselves as future contributors to the school’s growth and to cultivate a spirit of gratitude, responsibility and service to their community.

The Acting President further called for sustained cooperation between the association and the school authorities to facilitate future projects that would benefit students, teachers and the wider school community.

A major highlight of the programme was a special address delivered by Dr Fashola, Principal of the Senior Secondary School, in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child.

Dr Fashola advised female students to remain committed to their academic pursuits and prepare themselves to take advantage of opportunities whenever they arise.

She encouraged them to recognise their potential, develop self-confidence and equip themselves with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in their chosen fields.

She also urged the students to be ready to explore opportunities and demonstrate their capabilities whenever they are called upon to assume responsibilities.

Her message underscored the importance of education, personal development and confidence in preparing girls to contribute meaningfully to society.

During the health sensitisation session, Comrade Rukayat Onibu speaking on behalf of the Health Committee, educated students on personal hygiene, proper sanitary pad usage and appropriate body care.

She stressed the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices and understanding how to care for the body, particularly during menstruation.

Onibu also advised students against applying soap, perfume or deodorant directly to their private parts, explaining that the vagina has a natural self-cleaning mechanism and does not require internal washing with such products.

She encouraged the students to adopt appropriate hygiene practices, use sanitary products correctly and seek reliable health information whenever they have concerns about their bodies.

The session provided an opportunity to address issues relating to menstrual health and personal care, with particular attention to the health, confidence and dignity of female students.

As part of its intervention, OHS ’04 Set donated two first-aid boxes, with one presented to each of the Junior and Senior Secondary Schools.

The donation is intended to support the schools’ capacity to respond to minor injuries and basic medical emergencies within the school environment.

The association also distributed socks and sanitary pads to more than 600 students, reinforcing its commitment to student welfare, personal hygiene and the well-being of the girl child.

The distribution of sanitary pads was particularly significant in promoting menstrual hygiene and supporting female students in managing their menstrual health with greater confidence and dignity.

In addition, the association organised health checks for teachers and other school staff to help them assess their health status and encourage them to take appropriate steps towards maintaining their well-being.

The intervention highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and the need to extend health awareness beyond students to include the educators and other personnel responsible for the day-to-day running of the schools.

The Principal of Oluaso High School Junior Secondary School, Mr Esan Funmilayo Juliana, expressed appreciation to OHS ’04 Set for organising the programme and supporting the school community.

She commended the association for its initiative and prayed that God would replenish the purses of all members and contributors who supported the successful execution of the programme.

The principal also appealed to members of the association to maintain regular contact with the school by organising moral talks, career guidance sessions and other activities that could positively influence students’ attitudes and aspirations.

She emphasised the importance of alumni involvement in shaping students’ orientation, broadening their perspectives and exposing them to opportunities beyond the classroom.

Her appeal highlighted the need for sustained engagement between former students and the younger generation, noting the potential value of mentorship and career guidance in preparing students for their future.

Speaking at the programme, Comrade Mojeed Falola disclosed that the health awareness initiative was not the first project undertaken by OHS ’04 Set in support of its alma mater.

He recalled that in 2019, the association renovated the school’s signpost and presented books, textbooks and other educational materials to outstanding students of the Junior Secondary School.

According to Falola, the projects reflected the association’s longstanding commitment to educational development and its determination to give back to the institution that provided the foundation for its members’ growth.

He explained that the latest programme represented a continuation of those efforts, extending the association’s interventions to health education, personal hygiene and the welfare of students and staff.

The projects demonstrate the association’s approach to alumni engagement through practical initiatives designed to complement the efforts of school management and encourage academic and personal development.

The Health Awareness Programme underscores the role alumni associations can play in supporting educational institutions through health interventions, educational materials, mentorship and other community-focused projects.

By combining health education with material donations and staff health checks, OHS ’04 Set addressed several aspects of the school community’s welfare.

The programme also reinforced the importance of collaboration between alumni and school authorities in creating an environment conducive to learning, personal development and the well-being of students and staff.

The appeal for regular moral and career talks further highlighted the importance of sustained alumni involvement beyond one-off donations and special events.

OHS ’04 Set has reiterated its commitment to supporting future projects that advance the interests of its alma mater and contribute to the development of younger generations.

The association’s interventions, including the 2019 renovation of the school signpost and donation of educational materials, reflect its continued interest in supporting Oluaso High School.

With its motto, “Making Life Better,” OHS ’04 Set continues to promote a culture of giving back through initiatives aimed at improving student welfare, supporting education and strengthening its relationship with the school community.
