The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has addressed reports linking one of its members, Stanley Amandi, to an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Amandi, a former chairperson of the Enugu State chapter of the guild, is among several civilians reportedly arrested in connection with the alleged coup attempt.
Speculation about a possible coup first emerged in October 2025 after the federal government cancelled the parade marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
At the time, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) dismissed claims that the parade cancellation was related to a coup plot and also clarified that the arrest of some officers had no such connection.
However, on October 31, TheCable reported that 16 military officers had been arrested over the alleged coup attempt, while two others were said to be on the run.
According to a Friday report by Premium Times, Amandi was among the civilians arrested last September, a development that came before the DHQ officially confirmed that a coup plot had indeed been uncovered.
“The actor was hired to play the role of a propagandist by the alleged coupists who planned to assassinate top government officials last year,” the newspaper reported.
“The officers allegedly planned a violent takeover in which the top government officials were marked for elimination.”
The report further stated that the implicated military officers would face court-martial, while the civilians involved would be prosecuted in civil courts.
Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle, AGN National President Emeka Rollas confirmed that the guild is aware of the matter involving Amandi and noted that an official statement would be released in due course.
