Angélique Kidjo releases star-studded Hope album

Five-time Grammy-winning singer Angélique Kidjo has released her 19th studio album, Hope, a star-studded project featuring several global music icons.

The album includes collaborations with internationally recognised artistes such as Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and Quavo, alongside Nigerian stars Davido and Ayra Starr.

Kidjo said she spent five years working on the 16-track album, which she dedicated to her late mother, Yvonne, whose influence she described as profoundly inspiring.

She explained that her mother encouraged her to believe in her dreams and instilled in her a lasting sense of hope, adding that this message continues to guide her work.

The album blends Afrobeats with American R&B, funk and global pop, showcasing Kidjo’s distinctive cross-cultural sound.

Ahead of the release, she unveiled Joy, featuring Davido, in 2024 to positive reception. Other tracks include Bando with Pharrell Williams and Quavo, Aye Kan (Are You Coming Back?) with Ayra Starr, No Stopping Us with Pharrell Williams, and Fall on Me featuring PJ Morton.

Additional collaborations feature artistes such as IZA, Nile Rodgers, Dadju, The Cavemen, and Diamond Platnumz, alongside contributions from the Soweto Gospel Choir, Charlie Wilson, Florent Pagny and Fally Ipupa.

A notable highlight is Kidjo’s solo rendition of Jerusalema, originally performed by Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode, which adds a reflective and emotional dimension to the album.

Kidjo described the project as a celebration of life, unity and resilience, noting that she poured her heart into every track while honouring her mother’s legacy.
