I don’t mind being house husband if my wife earns more than me — Popular actor

Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has said he would have no issue becoming a “house husband” if his wife eventually earns more than him.

Speaking during an interview on Tea With Tay podcast, the film star said he would willingly step away from acting to focus on family life if his wife becomes the main breadwinner.

He explained that he is comfortable with such a setup, stressing that his core aim is to remain “valuable” to his family regardless of traditional expectations around gender roles.

Okanlawon also spoke on the discomfort some men feel when women earn higher incomes, saying it often results in insecurity and unnecessary sensitivity.

“I pray to God. My wife hits a business that earns between $1 million and $10 million per year. You won’t see me act again,” he said.

“I will become a house husband. I will take my children to school and even cook, despite not knowing how to. If there is money, I don’t mind being a house husband. If there is money? What are you doing again?

“I find that a lot of men are not comfortable with that dynamic, so they become hypersensitive and complain over little things.

“My only prayer is that, as a human being, regardless of gender, I should be valuable to my family.”

Okanlawon got married to Damilola in January 2013.

The couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Demide, in July 2016. Their second son, Adeife, was born in December 2017, while they welcomed their third child in February 2024.
